May 1971 Special Israel Issue
"On the occasion of the magazine's 25th anniversary, the editors decided to put together an issue dedicated to one of the most popular topics in its pages: the State of Israel. Here are a few of the articles in the special Israel issue of May, 1971

"Israel, What Now?"
An editorial touching on themes that continue to be of particular importance to American Jews: to what extent should American Jews criticize Israel? Are Jews who are to vocal in their criticism 'self-haters'? Rabbi Joachim Prinz, chairman of the Governing Council, World Jewish Congress is quoted as saying "We need two declarations of independence, American Jewry must acknowledge Israel as sovereign over itself, not governed by US Jews. And Israel must acknowledge the independence and integrity of American Jewry."

"Black Union Leader Visits Israel"
This is a fascinating piece by Lillian Roberts. She was Associate Director for DC 37 (AFL-CIO) and visited Israel in 1970 to observe the labor infrastructure and politics.

"Readers' Forum on Israel"
Our readers discuss the role the Black Panthers played in American Zionism as well as why they suspect the 'altruism' of the American government's aid to Israel.
